Fasem: chairs and tables from tuscany

Italian designer brand Fasem produces furniture for cultural people. Many Italian furniture makers strive for versatility. There are companies that produce everything: from shelves to lamps. Fasem International is another case. Firstly, the assortment of the factory is consciously and conceptually limited to armchairs, chairs and tables (cabinets and shelves are rare), and secondly, it is not a family enterprise, but a joint-stock company with a invited director.

The company was founded in 1976 in the vicinity of Pisa, in the small town of Vicopisano. All production began with a workshop for the manufacture of metal furniture, comfortable, durable and refined. The name Fasem is an abbreviation of Fabbrica Sedie in Metallo, a factory of metal chairs. In the late 1970s, Fasem begins its adventure in the world of designer furniture with exclusive production. Since the 1980s, the product style has been shaped - a balance between classic and modern design, clear, catchy silhouettes and rich leather trim. Fasem invites the cooperation of the best Italian and foreign designers, the models S / 44 and P / 44 Giancarlo Wigny appear.

The Brazilian architect, the guru of modernist architecture, Oscar Niemeyer painted the spectacular Rio lounger in 1958, and Fasem received the right to reprint it for his collection. Year after year, the company engaged new authors, and the catalog became more diverse. The end of the 1990s was a particularly intensive period. In 1995, the British Ross Lovegrove creates an elegant transformer, the Crop chair chair, and two years later, in 1997, he also designs the Magic chair with a seat resembling flying fabric. In 1998, the then rising star Patricia Urkiola and Korean Sun Seok Kim released the K.U collection. And in 1999, the American designer Vladimir Kagan designed the Fettuccini chair, with elegant legs resembling a variety of flat Italian pasta. Noe Duchofour-Lorance, Andrea Branzi, Toshiyuki Kita, Mark Sadler, Patrick Norge, Roberto Lazzeroni also contributed to the development of the brand.

"Our choice always falls on designers who have their own philosophy regarding production and their own approach, close to the style of Fasem." A Fasem client is a person with a high socio-cultural level, a person who values high quality handicraft and design products.

Fasem International exports its products worldwide with an annual turnover of 5 million euros. But unlike the brands that have long since transferred their production to China and other developing countries, Italian furniture makers tend to abandon all stages of the process inside the country. The real pride of the factory is the certificate of 100% made in Italy.
