Paolo Dzani, a talented Italian designer and art director of Cierre Accessories, visited Moscow. He held a master class during "Interior Show" and gave an interview to our magazine

SALON: How did your design career begin?

- I won my first design competition at 22 with a headphone project for a player. They were put into production. The success inspired me, and I firmly decided to design in life only what I want. My further life experience showed that designers very rarely have to work only on what is pleasant, but in my case this turned out to be wrong. I can not name a single thing to which I would not lay the soul.

S: Where do you work best - in the office or at home?

- Like most designers in Italy, I prefer not to leave far from my office. Actually, my office and home are different floors of the same building. I made my house look like a studio. The main role is played by the kitchen. The kitchen is a whole world, with its rituals, small joys and secrets. I can not imagine what place in the house can be more pleasant. This is probably why it is so easy for me to design things for CIERRE ACCESSORIES. These are ware, textiles, various trifles for the house. In a word, that without which comfort in the house is unthinkable. To be the art director of this company for many years means to receive constant pleasure.

S: Surely in your work you follow certain rules. Tell about them.

- The basis of my creative method is constant communication with all participants in the production process, as well as with customers. Without this complex interaction, a quality product will not work. The designer in rare cases makes the project from the beginning to the end himself. He can not be a sort of artist, leaving a beautiful flourish on the back of his masterpiece. An industrial designer is someone who can look at things from different angles and draw the right conclusions.

We were guided by this principle when we started working with the company. FONTANAARTE and its director, Carlo Guglielmi. So turned out the lamps, which are good for its versatility and neutrality.

S: Imagine that you have more free time, what would you have given it?

- Probably the development of my own brand of carpet products WARLI. I founded it in 1992. Carpets are made in India, in a small village, whose inhabitants still keep the traditions of ancient weaving. That is, on the one hand, the ancient secrets of dyeing and making wool are preserved in these carpets, but from a design point of view, this is certainly a modern product, suitable for expensive fashionable interiors.
