This boutique hotel was the latest hotel in the Chicago’s West Loop complex, an area known for its designer sites and trendy restaurants. A series of different buildings connected with each other formed a hotel with 159 rooms. There is also space for events and parties, a rooftop bar and lounge area. (The reconstruction work of the six-story building was completed by a local company GREC Architects, which has extensive experience working with Chicago buildings of the 1920s).
Reflecting on the project, the architects set a goal for themselves to mix the old and the new in the most fashionable way. On the one hand, it was possible to preserve the historical facade of the old Fulton market, which now forms the southern side of the building. The Ace Hotel interiors were inspired by the Commune team as a reminder of the “New Bauhaus”, as an homage to the city, where the craft traditions of the Midwest and European functionalism merged.
