The donor was Pope Alexander VII. So he decided to secure the future of his niece Olympia and her husband Giulio dei Gori, who came from a noble family of nobles. Accordingly, the palazzo was named Gori Pannilini.

Alexander VII, of course, gave not just bare walls. The palazzo was decorated and furnished. And the decor is preserved! Hotel interiors (including rooms) are decorated with "native" murals. They were long (more than nine years old) and painstakingly restored. Here you can feel the spirit of an aristocratic palazzo, the way we imagine it: with high ceilings, decorated with stucco, with painted walls, with massive crystal chandeliers, carved pendants that gleam in soft sunlight pouring from the dissolved windows in elegant gilded frames. With rooms buried in silks and velvet, with lush, solemn furniture, candelabra for eight candles, Chinese porcelain slides and hundreds of mirrors that create reflections of reflections. Grand Continental is just that. This is not even a hotel, but almost a private, family residence.

And finally, a few words about food. You should definitely pay attention to the Sapordivino restaurant and traditional Tuscan dishes (Siena is located in the Tuscany region) from chef Luca Ciaffarafa - duck terry with honey-chestnut sauce and dark chocolate cake with dessert. Plus a selection of local cheeses and sausages. And to look - for the sake of the interior, and not only - in the ancient cellar (XII century). In addition to the spirit of antiquity, there is an excellent selection of Tuscan wines.
