The idea of creating this interior appeared as follows: architect Nina Prudnikova I really liked the old house in which this apartment was located. She immediately imagined how good the Russian interior would be in the spirit of the late XIX - early XX century. But for many reasons, this idea had to be abandoned. And as an alternative solution appeared interior in Victorian style

Tells Nina Prudnikova: "The Victorian style appeared, of course, not by chance. We reworked a pile of literature, looking for a style that would fit this old Arbat apartment, we really wanted to preserve its spirit. We chose the Victorian, but in its lightweight version.

We were faced with a difficult planning task - it was necessary to divide the apartment into two zones - parents and children, so that they were independent of each other and conveniently connected. The apartment is about 200 square meters. m. First of all, we made two kitchens. One - where the whole family eats and where they cook. The other is a small one, where the owner himself can have breakfast, practically without going outside the living room or office. For him, this is an important element not even of planning and design, but of etiquette: he is a well-known person, for him it is a good tone to take visitors in the morning in an informal setting.

The layout turned out, I think, interesting. It is built on the principle enfiladeas was done in old houses. From the hallway you can get to the living area, then suite in the study, bedroom, dressing room, children's room area and, passing by the main kitchen, return to the hallway. This roundabout was made so that the owner of the apartment could quickly and easily get into children's rooms. And when children grow up and there is no need for frequent visits to children, the door to the dressing room can be made deaf, really dividing an apartment into two isolated spaces.

Our customers used to live in St. Petersburg and got used to apartments with high ceilings, with stucco, with chandeliers, that is, to the classical solution of the interior. Therefore, in the whole apartment we have quite wide plaster cornices, sockets, front chandeliers. By the way, the floors in the hallway, kitchens and bathrooms made a checkered pattern, not because this is our corporate reception, and not because of the English style. This decor is actually quite Russian - all the entrances of old houses were laid out with tiles in this way.

As for the color solution, it is quite juicy, not faded, not pale. Since we used the Victorian style here, it means that the color of the walls must be saturated. Frankly, for the first time in my life I decided on a flowered wallpaper, moreover, on a rose. And she was very worried about how it would look, she was afraid that she would come out as a petty-bourgeois. It turned out, in my opinion, very well. Still, on large planes of the walls such decor as flowers, roses, some kind of decorative stuffing, looks organically. And the main scale in which the apartment is solved is just traditional for me. I don't really like experimenting at all. And once came to the understanding that dusty green in combination with pink is good, I don’t want to go a long, thorny path in order to understand the same postulate anew.

As the owner collects prints from Petersburg landscapes, we decorated the walls with them in abundance. Everything here is dedicated to St. Petersburg. We collected this collection, designed it and tried to somehow thematically and broadly distribute the entire space. And, I must say, the engravings filled the total volume, filling the niche that should have been occupied by things in Victorian style.

Nina Prudnikova:"The apartment is located in a house on Old Arbat. When we first arrived there, all the ceilings were destroyed. The huge space, high ceilings ... a beautiful old house. The very spirit of the entrance, stairs and halls made me think of making an interior in a noble Russian style somewhere late XIX - the beginning of XX century. But this idea had to be abandoned. "
