The designer told us how to create a shell as thick as a sheet of paper, and a lamp that can illuminate any surface.

Toan Nguyen began as an apprentice to Antonio Citterio. Seven years ago, he opened his design bureau. This year, several collections with his signature appeared at once: furniture for FENDI CASA, plumbing for LAUFEN and lamps for VIBIA. He told us more about the last two: “LAUFEN suggested that I experiment with new material developed by the factory — SaphirKeramik. It has unique properties: it is ceramics, but due to the content of corundum it is stronger than steel. At the same time, surprisingly thin surfaces can be made of it — just a few millimeters thick. Imagine bending the edge in one (!) Millimeter. I decided to use the extraordinary plasticity of this material: together with the technicians, we poured a shell out of it with a shelf inserted into it, as if flowing from it for a trifle. In the collection (called Ino) there is also an unusual bath with a curved edge-headrest of Sentec material, which allows you to create solid structures. As for the Algorithm fixtures for VIBIA, it was also an interesting experience. The model is a modular lamp, which is made up of several sections of glass balls suspended on metal rods. It all depends on the wishes of the customer, on what surface you need to light. You can confine and one ball, if you need a night light. Or create a spectacular design like a set of a dozen of these, if you want to light the lounge in the cafe. Above the reception, line them up, over the dining table, start up in a wave. Freedom of choice is a major technological achievement of the 21st century. ”
