From September 12 to 15, the 27th International Exhibition of Chairs Promosedia-2003 was held in the Italian city of Udine There are factories around and around Udine that specialize in the manufacture of chairs — most of all Italian sedia are made in this region. However, one should not think that the exhibition in Udine is an “small party”. First, every year, an authoritative jury selects Top Ten - the top ten chairs. Secondly, the organizers annually arrange a competition for young designers at the Caiazza Memorial Challenge (Ernesto Kayats was one of those patriotic citizens of Udine who in the mid-eighties was able to revive the interest of the notorious “global community” to an already extinct international exhibition). This year, the first prize went to the British Chris Jackson (Chris Jackson) and Peter McCann (Peter Mac Cann). Their LTO rocking chair is equipped with an abutment to make it easier for the seated to lean over the table. The jury paid special attention to the extremely simple-looking Dent stool of the Austrian designer Claudia Pfleger. The trick is that the folded in a wooden box "rooted" in polyurethane foam - when a person sits down, the seat gently springs. In a word, manufacturers of various sedia have a fresh source of ideas, which means that next year there will be even more chairs at the exhibition. Good and different.
