Exhibition Proposte in Como, Italy

Passing the gallery

Magazine: Decor N8 (119) 2007

In the small town of Como, on the shores of the most beautiful lake in Italy, the annual international textile exhibition Proposte was held, at which interior fabric manufacturers presented their new products.

More than 100 companies from around the world came together for the anniversary exhibition. They brought Italian silks and damasks, French lace and Belgian jacquards, English brocade and Spanish flax. Classic and modern collections of textiles from famous designers decorated the exhibition complex, which is located on the territory of the old villa Erb.

The general trend has become an abundance of metal. These are jacquard patterns and embroideries with lurex, gold and silver prints and applications applied on all types of fabrics - from chiffon to flax. Here there are huge crocuses on the thinnest gas, and curls of classic medallions on striped linen, and placers of flowers or ovals on chiffon and organza. By the way, about ovals: the idea of a circle with modern designers is especially popular, so all his fellows are in fashion - ovals, ellipses, peas, even whole flower ornaments are included in the circle. But about the colors separately!

This season, floral rapports are striking in their size. Designers depict whole pictures that can be viewed only on large spaces. Therefore, the windows must be large, the ceilings high, and the walls free of excess furniture. As for the texture of fabrics, then there is complete freedom. It is still fashionable to mix different textures - flax with silk, viscose, lurex. The combination of silk and wool was unexpected, resulting in a stunning effect of tenderness and softness. Smooth satin, rough flax, soft velvet, and intricate openwork are in fashion.

On color, you can say one thing: the brighter, the more fashionable. The combination of pink and green, red and blue, purple and brown give complete freedom for creative people. So go ahead!

Elvira Smirnova, Director of the Company "Galeria Arben": Typically, Proposte attracts owners of companies working with archival designs, so fabrics are mostly classic, but this year there were a lot of innovative fabrics. Modern collections have released almost all manufacturers. Bright colors, unusual combinations, large rapports, the use of Lurex - these are the main trends in the design of collections.

Ekaterina Smirnova, director of a Moscow design studio "Decor K": In the classic collections there is no previous riot of colors. The colors have become more restrained and complex, and the shades more subdued. The drawings are mostly printed, with repetitive large rapports. Designers are not afraid to mix modern and classic. A lot of flax and panne. The range of monochromatic natural silks has expanded to 200 colors. Luxurious silk with a convex jacquard pattern from the company FIORETE, decorated with a scattering of crystals SWAROVSKI, and with a mosaic pattern BISAZZA, from CANEPA TESSITURA SERICA factories.

Filippo Mambretti, one of the organizers of the exhibition, president of the company Mambretti Filippo: This year the exhibition presents many innovative fabrics. This mainly applies to modern collections. The trends that are reflected in them, pass a kind of test - will they be accepted or rejected. But we will know about it only next year, when we see their new incarnations. And in two or three years they will fill the entire market. For myself, as the owner of a company that produces classic fabrics, I noted the desire to use metallic threads, shiny fabrics and black and white combinations. After all, for the classics, only the drawing is unchanged, and everything else moves with the times.
