Ibiza is a Spanish island in the Mediterranean. In the summer, all the young people of Europe seem to gather here. But the status of "entertainment capital" has a downside: they come here in a season, for a week or two a month, and then the island becomes empty. They buy houses here too to spend the most pleasant summer months. The rest of the year they stand with shutters tightly closed.
Nils Wager's house (Nils Wager) is completely different. There are no shutters. It would seem that in this such? However, in this case, the issue with shutters can be considered fundamental. Firstly, they are not there because they are not necessary - they would never be closed anyway. Niels House year-round. Niels, a British, formerly native to London, settled in Ibiza by pure accident. “As a student, we loved to descend here with friends, take a week out and go home,” says Nils. “I always liked it here, but I didn’t think about coming here in the summer, and even more so for a long time. For several years ago, I decided to find a house in Ibiza - my friends had “demanded” me to get such a villa. Once we went to inspect another option, turned the wrong way, got lost and found ourselves in a strange place. It was not immediately clear what was happening. would be a hill and a landscape, but it seems to be some kind of concrete ru us. " This was the first time Nils saw the place where his dream home subsequently appeared. Concrete ruins are all that remains of the project that they were trying to implement here before it. Whether the previous owners suddenly ran out of money, or the architects, completely exhausted by the difficult, hilly relief, decided to give up the work. “Of course, it was economically unprofitable to work with such an inheritance, to put it mildly, it’s always easier to start from scratch,” says Nils. “But there was something in these ruins, and I didn’t have the heart to get rid of them.”
And here again it is worth remembering the shutters. Most of the summer houses in Ibiza are designed in one style and somewhat resemble the building of the Greek islands, Provence in the resort version. The house of Niels is in all respects knocked out of this stylistics, and the shutters on this minimalist, concrete facade would not have taken root. “The house had to be discreet, concise and open to the surrounding space,” comments Nils. Therefore, on the facade the main role is played by huge, panoramic windows in the floor. From the first floor you can easily get to the terrace with a swimming pool. Lounge area for sunbathing is on the roof. "In the summer this is all well and good, but in winter it is useless, then the whole life is concentrated in the living room around the fireplace," says Nils. The fireplace, by the way, was not originally intended. He appeared when Nils realized that Ibiza is good not only in the summer and he wants to live here all year round. I had to adapt the house for new requests of the owner.
Niels has a large collection of works of contemporary art. “I was very afraid that the house would look like a museum. Still, large, open spaces, flowing smoothly into one another, are being asked for under the art gallery,” says Niels. “But designer Maria Rodriguez-Carreño Villegomes (Maria Rodriguez-Carreno Villagomez offered an interesting move. She painted the walls in bright, almost acidic colors and used massive furniture of clearly readable forms. And then in this space, where the color and composition dominants are defined, she found a place for individual items. "
