Having answered only three questions, the designer Пьер Луиджи Фригетто I was able to talk about how minimalism lives today and what he personally does for his development

SALON: Mr. Frigetto, tell me, where is European design going now?

 - Now I see an interesting European trend - a return to monograms, carved flowers and everything associated with the classics. However, this return takes place within the framework of minimalism. Classics and modernity are closely intertwined in the interior, two such different directions give each other an impulse to development. For example, I dilute my modern interior with antique objects, and the decor of some of the latest models was borrowed from the classics by me. Look at the Seasons sofa company FRIGHETTO: the style is modern, but it includes elements of baroque plastic. Pure minimalism seems to many too cold, for greater comfort and coziness it needs to be saturated with easy borrowings.

S: Upholstered furniture, especially sofas, are the main direction of work for you and the company. FRIGHETTOtherefore you for certain look for new upholstery materials.

 - Yes, we are just doing such research. But here you don’t experiment much: there are fabrics, leather, and there is no need to invent something completely different. We think not so much about new materials, but about new ways of finishing them. One of our most current projects is leather, extremely soft and delicate, like fabric. We want to get from her absolutely incredible tactile sensations. And besides, I'm going to re-trim the tree, combine it with glass. I just had an interesting idea, but I think it’s too early to tell about it.

S: Are you still directly involved in the creation of furniture?

 - Yes. I draw projects, select materials, control all production processes. If there is a task in which I am not very strong, for example, to develop a project for a chair, then I seek the help of my friends, also professional designers, such as Karim Rashidand we are already working together. In general, I constantly create new furniture. Even on arrival in Moscow, I managed to think over and draw several projects that are likely to be put into production.
