In this house in the suburbs of Vilnius lives the family of the famous Lithuanian artist Vilmantas Marcinkevičius. It was the painting that played a key role in creating a bright, spectacular and artistic interior, in which modern and classical motifs organically intertwined.
They tell about the house and the special atmosphere created here. Indra Marcinkevichen (designer-decorator, hostess and one of the interior authors) and architect Alvydas Sheybokas (The author of the architectural project of the house).
Indra Marcinkevichen: We used to live in the center of Vilnius, in the so-called Old Town, in a two-level apartment with an attic. We loved her very much and, having decided to build a house (we had daughters), we wanted the new dwelling to be as comfortable, modern and incredibly comfortable as the former. So that he wanted to return again and again. We asked a long-time friend of our family architect to prepare the project. Alvydas Shaybokas.
Alvydas Sheybokas: The customers set me two tasks: on the one hand, the family wanted to have living space with a mansard, but, on the other, the owner of the house, a professional artist, needed a spacious and comfortable workshop. Thus was born the idea of a building consisting of two volumes, differing from each other in shape, color and finishing materials. One, with a dual roof, completely, including the roof, is sheathed with moisture-resistant wood. The second, cubic, covered with slabs of natural stone and contrasts with the light wood of the residential part. I believe that the house should correspond to its time. Therefore, the structure with traditional forms, we "dressed" in modern clothes. In this role, the most common building material was wooden board, which covered not only the walls, but also the roof. It looks beautiful, eco-friendly and fresh. As for the planning decision, on the ground floor there are public spaces: a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a guest room and the entrance to the workshop. The second floor is a private area with children's bedrooms, bathrooms and the parents' bedroom with a transparent wall opening onto the living room.
AND M.: Architect helped to work on the interior Race Ionicatewith which we solved all technical issues. The interior concept logically follows from the architectural idea. In the inner space, classical and modern motifs are mixed. For example, antique furniture and antique mirrors are combined with avant-garde lamps and a minimalist kitchen. I love painting, and therefore there are many works of Lithuanian artists in our house. They filled the interior with colors and defined its color scheme. In the dining room, for example, curtains, carpeting and upholstery of chairs were chosen in tune to the picture of Linas Tsitsenas. As an accent in this area serves a dining table painted white. A golden textile mural (by Loret Svajskauskienė) decorating the living room was dictated by the baroque ornament of the wallpaper. Our bedroom is designed in the same purple-green color as the living room. By the way, it is very similar to the bedroom in our old apartment. This is a very private space. Therefore, here we hung a picture of her husband. There is in its interior and a dear thing for us "with history." A few years ago, my husband Vilmantas painted portraits of the Prince and Princess of Denmark and their children. When the work was completed, Princess Alexandra presented her husband with a costume in which she posed. We placed it in a frame, and this peculiar picture became the decoration of the bedroom. And in the design of the bathroom, we used pictures and art objects of our friends.
Designer decorator Indra Marcinkevichen: "For a significant period of my life I lived in the house of the famous opera tenor Kipras Petrauskas. The house was filled with antiques, it was dominated by the atmosphere of true love for art. there are many colors in my works. I understand their language. when pictures of favorite artists fill the space. Painting inspires me, gives impetus to the creation of an interior "
