Before opening the new Flamant Home Interiors store, the editor-in-chief of SALON-interior magazine Oksana Kashenko met with Stepan Mikhalkov

Businessman Stepan Mikhalkov and decorator Vera Sigeeva recently opened the first in Russia furniture store Flamant Home Interiors. Flamant is a Belgian furniture chain that has existed since 1978 and has 500 stores in the world.

The Moscow Flamant area is 700 square meters, and every corner in the new store is like a finished home interior — with accessories, dishes, pictures ... Bohemian "and cozy home.

 - How long have you been fond of interiors?

 - The love to beautification arose in my childhood. At our dacha on Nikolina Gora there were two houses. The old one was rebuilt by grandmother Natalya Petrovna Konchalovskaya, my father’s mom. Then they built a new wooden house, and she moved into it. The attention and taste with which she created the interiors amazed me. Both houses were made in the classic Russian manor style. One repeated the estate in the Bugary, which belonged to Peter Konchalovsky. My grandmother grew up there and Andron and Nikita spent their childhood years. A grandmother made a new house in the style of a village tower - with a high roof, from a large bar. In one, the furniture was simply classical in style, and in the second, new, recognizably empire, from Karelian birch. The house was warm honey-colored, very cozy. Grandma cooked fantastically, and the flavors of her signature dishes poured around the house ... This honey color of the house and these flavors merged in me into one magical picture of childhood.

Later, when my brother and I became older, we were allocated a separate room, and we began to redo them for ourselves - to change furniture, to hang pictures and posters. Then I lived in different apartments, in different places, and everywhere I transformed the space for myself. Even when he served in the army, in Nakhodka in the Far East, first on the ship, and then in the club as an artist, I had my own “artwork”, which I also modified - repainted the walls, hung pictures and posters ... So my passion for interiors is old ...

 - How did the love for interiors grow into a business?

 - Fifteen years ago I began to build my first house in the area of Nikolina Gora. I made it almost all myself. Next was the restaurant business, where I also worked on all the interiors myself. Two years ago, at some alpine resort, my friend and, at that time, partner Roman Karpov, talked about furniture and got so carried away that they came up with a new project - to buy antique furniture and redo it. At the same time, they opened their small company, where to this day we make piece goods for ourselves and for friends. We buy furniture in antique stores and shops, not chasing valuable and expensive items. First of all, we are interested in form, we take it as a basis, and then we figure out what to do with it. From the buffet can get a chest of drawers and facing the fireplace, from the pier of the 60s - a Chinese box or chest of drawers under black lacquer. Now the company "Furniturer" has already acquired its fans and customers.

 - How did Flamant come about?

 - Honestly, it was the idea of Vera Sigeeva. I once saw Flamant when I went to the exhibition Maison&Objet and searched there for items for my house under construction. I remember this style, it turned out to be close to me - such a shabby chic. FLAMANT is a Belgian company, but different styles are mixed here - classic English with leather sofas and French Provence with bleached worn tables and buffets. Bribes a huge number of finely selected accessories that competently complement the interiors.

 - And don't you yourself think everything is very gray and dark here?

 - I believe that each room has its own purpose. It all depends on whether the man lives in it or the woman. For the male office, gray is a great solution. Then, do not forget that the interior is not only what you see in the showroom. It is always complemented by personal items, paintings, vases and flowers. This furniture and this style create an excellent background for bright accents. Personally, I love when it is so - bright colors in the interior are present only in the quality of paintings, pillows, carpets, bedspreads. The whole interior should not be so. Flamant reflects personally my taste and the taste of Faith.

- Here you can choose absolutely everything in one step - both furniture and accessories. And then what should a person do when he already has everything?

 - You know, it does not happen that a person has everything. This is an illusion. In any case, a person will begin to change something, move, combine one with another. I can be attributed to people who have everything. Where I live, there are no undeveloped rooms and corners in the interiors. But the desire to change something, get rid of one object and replace it with another, do redevelopment or simply move the furniture occurs periodically. This is a normal human need - to make changes in the space around you, and there is no end to this occupation.

- Where do you like to relax?

 - I love mountains, for many years I go to ski resorts. It was practically everywhere: in France, in Switzerland, in Austria, in Italy ...

- Where is the best?

- Depends on the season. In spring, the best in France, in the Three Valleys, when it is already warm, the flow of people has subsided and the Russian weeks have ended. That's when riding there is awesome. For several years to meet the New Year, we go to Leh. This Austrian Alps is also a very beautiful resort.

- And if we talk about hotels ...

 - At one time I was fascinated by design hotels and stayed mainly in them. Then this passion passed. In such hotels you pay for the design, but they are less comfortable. The rooms are always small. For some time I prefer to live in hotels-palaces, made in the classical style. For example, in Paris, I love "Bristol". It is spacious in the hall and in the rooms.

- What is luxury for you?

 - In life, I like to surround myself with simplicity and comfort. For me, luxury is when you can afford what you want. The Apostle Paul said: "Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is useful." Therefore, we must clearly understand what is useful for you and what is not useful.

 - The same can be applied to the question "What should I do to be happy?"

 - Of course. Understanding that you can do more than you allow yourself is much more pleasant than allowing yourself more than what you have the right to. And even nicer than allowing yourself what you can afford.
