It all started with the fact that the owner of the apartment, seeing one of the published projects of Oleg Klodt and Alexander Herman, came to the architects with the wish to do the same. But it also did not work out. It turned out differently ...

Says one of the authors of the project, architect Oleg Klodt.

SALON: What is the originality of this interior?

- Perhaps, with all the brevity and functionality of the solution, individual retroaccents, blotches of so-called historical styles, play a significant role in it. Contrast-graphic techniques in the design of the ceremonial zone are reminiscent of Art Deco, strict openwork moldings of the walls and ceiling lamps - of classicism. And, say, a children's room adjoining the guest zone, we made it look like the interior of a submarine ... Such a mix of everything with everything can be called the word "fusion" or "eclecticism", which is basically the same thing.

S: But as far as I know, you prefer not to talk about style when it comes to your work.

- In my opinion, today the concept of style in architecture and in life itself has become so blurred that it is wiser to avoid any kind of stylistic certainty (which we actually do).

S: So retreatment is not a style game?

- Absolutely.

S: Then what?

- Let's call this a game for the future. We are just setting accents. The interior should be developed and after it leaves the architect or designer. Live it can only owners. At the same time, we carefully thought over the decor and the subject matter, combined modern furniture and replicas of old-fashioned samples in one interior, and even developed our own author's antiques.

S: Probably a lot done to order?

- Almost everything, except for upholstered furniture. In this project, our everlasting desire to fill the interior with exclusive things has reached its apogee. Even the bronze handles on the windows and doors were cast to our sketches. I'm not talking about the drawing of stucco, built-in furniture, doors, wall panels.

S: Can you describe the ideal, from your point of view, residential interior?

- I can, and on fresh impressions. Most recently, I had the opportunity to visit an Italian villa of the 15th century - in a unique interior, rich in antiquity and at the same time completely non-museum, lively, modern. Such an atmosphere is ideal for home. We can say that we are trying to achieve something similar in our projects.

Oleg Klodt:"This interior has turned out to be modern, functional, comfortable and fully reflecting the character of its owners, their tastes and addictions. As for the retro elements, then, inscribed in the modern context, they exist as memories of Parisian and London apartments."

The editors thank the architect Oleg Klodt for his help in conducting a photo shoot for the application "Technomania" to the magazine SALON-interior №10 (99) 2005
