Villa Grumello on Lake Como has a turbulent history. In the 15th century it was almost a fortress, later bankers and count sons spent their days here.

For the first time this place is mentioned in documents of the 15th century as a small fortified castle, the owners of which quarreled with their feudal neighbors and were forced to fight them off. Around the mini-fortress then grew vineyards and orchards. There were many chestnuts, which was a special charm of the local landscapes. At the beginning of the next century, the Milan banker Tommaso d'Adda bought the property.
