Starting work on an apartment in a building built in the beginning of the 20th century, architects Ksenia Vasilyeva and Galina Medvedeva were ready for historical stylization. But the fact that the soil for it will be served not by the modern, to the era of which the house belongs, but by the later Art Deco style, was a pleasant surprise. The topic was asked by the customer, and it turned out to be very close to the authors of the project. The interior, with which the architects were to work, turned out to be a grateful material. It was a two-story apartment, each floor of which is divided by a bearing wall. There were no internal partitions: they were dismantled during the overhaul of the house. The planning solution was formed on the basis of the internal structure of the space and the ratio of functional zones. The entire first floor is the territory of adults. Here are the living room, study, kitchen-dining room and a bedroom of parents. On the second floor children are located freely. In the functional scenario of the apartment, the unification of the premises is not provided, an exception is made only for the kitchen-dining room, but it is formally divided by the bar counter. However, there is no feeling of tightness, since the area of the apartment is almost 400 square meters. An important role in the harmonization of space is assigned to the staircase hall. First of all, it was decided to correct the configuration of the L-shaped staircase that already existed here. It was replaced with a smoothly curved design, which gave the interior a dynamic and plasticity. Architects sought to give the rooms the most correct shape. The living room in the plan is a square, kitchen-dining room-rectangle. As you know, geometric precision was held in high es at Art Deco. A clearly defined coordinate system brings us closer to its aesthetics, but this is not yet a style. The most luxurious style of the twentieth century lies in the details. “We started work on the project in spring 2003, then the Art Deco theme was just coming into fashion. But by the time the furniture was purchased, the factories had already been able to offer collections in this style, ”says Ksenia Vasilyeva. The thinly traced profile of the ledge, the parquet with the curved border, a large tile of luxurious white marble — there are few details, but they are all flawless. The palette composed of expressive, “speaking” colors - silver, terracotta, deep lilac - contributes to the perception of the interior. Such is the Art Deco of the XXI century: intellectual, discreet and aristocratic. Ksenia Vasilyeva:“We designed the interior for an energetic man. Therefore, pastel colors could not appear here, but there was a reason to experiment with a combination of terracotta, silver and lilac ... "
