Sanaa river building: america's best construction

MANA Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP), a SANAA bureau project in Grace Farms, near New Keynen, Connecticut, won the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize Award for the best architectural structure in the Americas. The River Project Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa is a winding building with a length of 430 meters. Inside there are public spaces (auditorium, library, cafe), and open spaces under the roof form additional places for recreation. The most traditional materials are glass, concrete, steel and wood. The most spectacular element of the structure is the roof, which winds like a river bed. The jury noted the organic combination of the structure and the local landscape.

In the first six months alone, the building was visited by more than 50 thousand people as part of the activity of a charitable foundation and excursions. The landscape largely dictated the architecture of the building. Due to its silhouette, the building was named River - “River”. Wood is the key material in the exterior and interior of the project. The building is surrounded by a territory of 32 hectares. In total in the competition among the buildings of 2014-2015. 175 projects participated on two continents. In the process of selecting the winner of the prize, the jury visited all the buildings in order to assess their integration on Wednesday.
