In California, a real masterpiece of architecture of the 1980s went under the hammer. The UFO House, or UFO house, designed by architect John Lautner, was sold for $ 13 million.

The classic of American modernism John Lautner (1911-1994) went down in history as the author of original memorable houses and above all luxury private villas. UFO House, surrounded by gardens on all sides, is located on a picturesque hill overlooking the Coachella Valley.

Lautner uses all the possibilities of the local landscape, carefully "planting" the space house-ship in the middle of the blooming mountains. The house has a circular plan and is “covered” from above with a powerful roof with two rising edges and resembles a flying saucer from science fiction novels. In the middle of the roof there is a huge round window - a natural source of light that is relevant for a mild California climate.

The permanent owner of the house was the famous American comedian and TV host Bob Hope, who died in 2003 at the age of 100 years. Bob Hope and his wife Dolores owned three large mansions in California, however, according to the memoirs of contemporaries, only the UFO House was called the “dream home”. Hope, not without his inherent sense of humor, said about the house: "If the Martians ever end up on Earth, they will know where to land." The mansion was put up for sale in 2013, then its value was 50 million dollars, but the price was too high and realtors had to reduce it three times.
