Herzog & de meuron: school for the money of blavatnik

Оксфорд притягивает звезд архитектуры. После «металлической трубы» Investcorp от Zahа Hadid Architects ожидается премьера «разъезжающихся дисков» Blavatnik School of Government (BSG) от Herzog & de Meuron.

The School of Management is built on donations from Leonard Blavatnik (Leonid Blavatnik), an American billionaire of Russian origin, co-founder of the Renova company. According to British media, its investments in Oxford University amounted to 75 million pounds.

The construction of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron consists of seven circles - cylindrical volumes made up like a pyramid, one upon the other with a slight displacement. Movement is arranged in a spiral. At the lower level, there are public spaces and an audience of 200 seats, at the upper level there are academic and educational premises, a library.

“Oxford is almost a sacred site for world-class educational institutions,” says Jacques Herzog. “Its architectural heritage is impressive — most of the buildings that were built became part of urban development ... The configuration of the Blavatnik School of Government helps delicately integrate the building into the historical context. The courtyard - the specificity of historical colleges - is turned into an internal forum, by analogy with parliamentary and governmental spaces. We did it in order to stimulate public communication and informal exchange of knowledge between students, scholars and guests of the School from around the world. ”

The official opening of the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG) is scheduled for spring 2016.

Фасады Blavatnik School of Government (BSG) в Оксфорде от архитекторов Herzog & de Meuron сделаны из прозрачного стекла. The atrium is decided by the architects as a "forum". The space is clearly visible from all tiers of the building.
