Ginza six: the best mall in 2017

“There are two kinds of people who can control the future: politicians and designers. The task of the designer is to actually create it. Everything we do is like a drop of water that pulses to infinity. Imagine the responsibility and freedom that we have ... "

Designer Gwénaël Nicolas and his studio Curiosity completed a grand project in Tokyo in 2017. Ginza Six shopping complex unites boutiques of 240 brands on an area of 47,000 square meters. meters The atrium with its illuminated sculptural ceiling became a symbolic center. The delicate balance between Japanese tradition and futuristic architecture conveys an asanoha pattern (a geometric pattern of hexagons resembling cannabis leaves). Quality and a sense of luxury create carefully selected materials and their manual processing. Close cooperation with artisans and artists allowed Guenael to bring a sense of hospitality and the joy of continuous discovery. The space seems to vibrate, it is dynamically built in zigzags, attracting visitors to different floors and zones. Each store has its own configuration and identity. For easy navigation, clear graphic elements are used everywhere.

“As a designer, you must distribute creativity between the two extremes. You have to present something really new, but still make people feel comfortable. In my case, I really combined strong avant-garde forms and elements that enable people to feel good, but not lose curiosity. ”
