Zhipeng tan: bone chair

Designer Zhipen Tan flaunts knowledge of anatomy. These pieces are reminiscent of the style of the famous Italian designer Carlo Mollino. His 33 Step chair was a hit at Design Miami. Young Shanghai designer Zhipie Tang - a graduate of the Chinese Academy of Art. Even in his student years, he thoroughly studied the old technology of casting using the “lost wax” method. And at the same time he thought about how to cast objects that vary in natural forms. And in his chairs and tables frozen drops of water, difficult braided woody roots. Then the pelvic bones, articular bags, cartilage and vertebrae were added to the arsenal of forms. Anatomy in Tana's interpretations looks elegant, a bit dangerous, ingenious and witty. The collection is called “33 steps”, according to the number of vertebrae in the human spine, the seat forms the pelvic bones. Despite the fact that the bar stool consists of three thin supports, the design is unusually strong. After all, the main material is brass.
