Zaha hadid: collection of furniture mid-century modern

Furniture by sketches by Zaha Hadid is on display in London at the David Gill Gallery. Eight luxury items were designed in 2016, shortly before the death of the architect, especially for the company of David Gill, an influential art dealer and close friend of Zaha Hadid. The work started by Hadid herself was completed by creative director of Zaha Hadid Architects Patrick Schumacher. The exhibition continues a number of innovations in the field of object design related to the heritage of a stellar architect.

The Ultrastellar collection includes items characteristic of Hadid silhouettes. This time, instead of acrylic, the production used the traditional design for the Mid-century modern 1950s-60s. wood and leather. Patrick Schumacher says that the architects had a difficult task to make furniture made of solid walnut visually light. For example, in the center of the tabletop of the oval table (the largest item in the collection) glass is inlaid, which makes the sculptural base visible to those sitting. The coffee table consists of four parts, each of which has cavities in the shape of funnels. They give the structure a movement along with recognizable smooth lines carved on the surface. Leather upholstery of chairs and sofas flows from the armrests to the back, seat and legs, creating a solid shape.
