The MAXXI Art Museum of the XXI Century (designed by Zahi Hadid) in Rome shows the Local Icons exhibition. East / West, organized by the initiative and with the active participation of the Italian company Alcantara S.p.A. A wonderful example of cooperation between a cultural institution and a design-oriented brand.
In the project - 9 famous designers and studios from different countries. They were offered to present to the public their vision of ten cities of the East and West. The list includes Amsterdam, London, Paris, Copenhagen, Vienna, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore and Jakarta. A city guide was created using Alcantara (Alcantara®). This is a highly innovative artificial fabric, a complex production process which is patented by the same company. In appearance, it looks like suede, but has a high wear resistance. It is used in designer clothes and accessories, for upholstering expensive furniture, trimming premium-class cars and business jets, yacht interiors, and even in the manufacture of woodwinds. Designers have once again demonstrated that the fabric is also suitable for creative installations.

The authors have chosen a key symbol for each city. Merlion, Little Mermaid, subway, night lights, rickshaws, Bruce Lee, Klimt ornaments, the chair of the architect Hendrik Berlage and leaves of non-legalized plants, tile roofs and bamboo huts. This is like a game of association. They each have their own and their list can be endless. And with what each of the ten cities you associate?
