Cassina: reissue of cult objects

In 2017, Cassina celebrates its 90th anniversary. In honor of the momentous event, the brand is preparing a large-scale re-release of 9 of its cult models under the direction of art director Patricia Urkiola. At last year’s imm Cololgne, Carlo Scarpa, Toshiyuki Kita, Piero Lissoni, Gerrit Rietveld and Joe Ponty already presented their works. This year, the factory showed the re-release of two great Le Corbusier items: LC1 and LC4, as well as updated Casiers Standart storage systems (1920s) and chairs 932 (1960s).

Religious pieces of furniture - the LC1 compact chair and the LC4 chaise lounge - were released in limited edition (400 copies each) in a new upholstery made of high-quality skins brought from South America. This move is a tribute to the travels of Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perrián in this region. The experience allowed to dive deeper into the local artistic and cultural circles, and later had a strong influence on their work.

The Casiers Standart storage system was first introduced by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in 1925 in the L'Esprit Nouveau pavilion, built by architects for the World Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris. Initially, the furniture was conceived as office. Later, in 1978, Charlotte Perryan adapted the system for home use and mass production.

The updated version today includes 7 ready-made compositions. You can choose the height, filling modules and finishes - a total of 18 options.

In the 60s, the chair 932, created by Mario Bellini, turned the idea of the approach to this piece of furniture. The designer literally dismantled the traditional chair on four independent pillows, fastening them at the base with a belt. Over time, the design made changes. Today, Cassina, having checked the archives, returns the models its historical appearance and proportions, as well as upholstery.
