Metamorphosis of modern life makes even the usual unrecognizable. Say, since ancient times, uttering the word "house", a person meant at the same time "housing". An industrial city has shaken traditional notions in our minds. Now the house is called a typical apartment, located on one of the floors of an apartment building. How to make in the environment recognizable friends who survived the millennium features of human housing? And how to simultaneously adapt this housing to its current needs and habits? An interesting attempt to solve these problems seems to us the project of the group of architects "Bureau 900"Deciding in 1992 to drastically reconstruct his apartment, the customer — a person burdened with many things and worries and, nevertheless, sociable and hospitable — wanted to create a living space where there is no rigid distinction between the total volume, the oppressive system of corridors and a large number of doors. . It should be a home for specific people - this is a general idea that inspired both the owner and the architects. The main emphasis, according to the authors, falls on the guest part. Its space does not leave a feeling of isolation, as is often the case in modern apartments. Living room, kitchen-dining room and living room exist in a single volume - the principle of planning is similar to what is sometimes used in American homes. Natural materials, long known to humanity, such as plaster, open oak, natural stone, remind of centuries-old traditions and make you forget about modernizing everything to a single standard. Somewhat unusual in the living room is the monumental and durable Spitak granite; he, however, needed in order to emphasize the softness and comfort of travertine. The room of the guest part is filled with air and light; there is a place for ceremonial receptions, family evenings by the fire, and daily worries. The office, bedrooms, storerooms with bathrooms are separated from it. In the premises for work and for sleeping, the atmosphere necessary for a person immersed in his business or eager to rest after day cares should reign. The hearth, which gathers friends and relatives; the study, fenced from noise, where it is easy to think and work — familiar, timeless images. Traditional materials used in the decoration, demanded a sense of measure and taste from the interior makers. Such a room will not delight anyone with luxury and novelty; on the contrary, everyone will recognize in him something native, familiar, half-forgotten. After all, our mind is constantly returning to abandoned life forms, as if rediscovering the same things for themselves. Such things include the classic house and the classic style in general - which seem to us today no less original than centuries ago.
