Communal apartment, consisting of many cramped cells, isolated from each other by walls of meter thickness, architect Svetozar Andreev turned into a single, viewed through space with large volumes and clear geometry

This apartment is located in a house that was rebuilt in the 20s of the last century, and, like in many pre-revolutionary buildings, was converted into a communal one on the principle of “one room with one window”. Architect Svetozaru Andreevu it took a large-scale reconstruction to create from this complex volume (the apartment was a cutting out of many small rooms separated from each other by powerful load-bearing walls with tiny doorways) modern housing with a single flowing space, large forms and a clear geometry. It was necessary to demolish not only all partitions, but also to disassemble part of the load-bearing walls. Since the floors were in the same pitiable condition, they were dismantled, installing a new ceiling. Most of the space is occupied by the living room, behind the thick partition is the kitchen. In the center - an impressive volume, where the bathroom and dressing room are located. It separates the bedroom and the office from the living room, leaving the sides of the aisles through which the whole apartment is seen through.

The most spectacular element in the design of the apartments were partitions, paneled, which contrast with each other not only in color but also in texture. Some are coated with light maple veneer, others are made of dark artificial leather. Behind most of them are built-in wardrobes. The living room is dominated by dark colors, in the bedroom more light colors. At the same time, the ceilings in the whole apartment are intentionally made of dark brown, and the floor, on the contrary, is made of light maple. According to Svetozar, this unusual solution turned out to be very successful: the rooms look unconventional, but at the same time they have a cozy atmosphere.

Project author Svetozar Andreev: “The main idea of the project is an ultra modern interior with a single, flowing volume. This style attracts people who, as a rule, lead an active lifestyle, creative-minded, loving non-standard solutions. In this case, the customer was not afraid to go for the most complicated reconstruction, and the result was a beautiful, laconic space for living. ”
