Designers round and round everything - armchairs, tables, carpets, ceiling lamps, vases ... The round shape has always fascinated a person. It seems to have obeyed her and modern design

Circle is one of the oldest forms. Western psychologists talk about the soothing effects of round shapes. In some cultures, the circle is associated with infinity, someone sees in it a symbol of the cyclical nature of life. It is believed that people like harmonious first of all. Judging by the number of round furniture that has appeared lately, there are more and more such people.

In design, interest in round furniture has awakened recently. In the first half of the twentieth century, completely different tastes prevailed: designers were fascinated by sharply outlined contours and acute-angled silhouettes. However, in the postwar era, people wanted something a little more comfortable. And then they remembered the circles. According to surveys of psychologists, it is this form that is primarily associated with the concept of comfort (it is not by chance that so many round beds are produced). Design of the 1950s-60s is replete with round furniture, lamps, accessories. The circles were also used as a picture: at the peak of popularity, there was a placer of bright confetti on upholstery fabrics.

The ideal neighborhood for round furniture is an ultra-modern design novelty in the spirit of the "hooligan" creations of the Campana brothers. Objects of a round shape subdue space for them, large rooms are needed. But such demands are justified: this furniture can not fail to attract attention. Nowadays, by the way, not only familiar plates, chairs or ceiling lamps, but even plumbing equipment are made round.
