The capitone technique was invented in the 18th century in France. The name comes from the verb capitonner, which can be translated as "to embed". So I want to add — furniture. Initially, however, the furniture was not upholstered, but the carriage salons. A peculiar pattern in the form of rhombuses was obtained due to folds-creases formed on the skin or fabric when they were sewn with buttons. Horsehair was used as a filler, and a button-fold system was needed to fix this crumbling mass. The roads were imperfect, the springs swung, but the passengers were comfortable, because thanks to the capiton the surfaces were very soft.
