One of the central areas of London, fashionable Chelsea, was built up for more than one century. Especially popular with residents of Chelsea enjoyed Victorian style. Even the houses that have appeared here in recent decades, looking around at historical neighbors, imitate Victorian chic. In one of these houses, Amir and Rome Latif recently acquired an apartment. Together with architect Wun Wong, they went in defiance of Queen Victoria and said sure “yes” to all the ultramodern

And the world and Rome are really carried away by London. They immediately formed a clear image of the future of London housing. Firstly, they needed a trendy area in the city center, secondly, a relatively new home, in order not to let down communications, and, finally, the opportunity to create a light spacious interior. Oddly enough, the search was delayed. Among all the abundance of offers, it was difficult to find exactly what would correspond to their not at all ambitious requirements. Finally, they met this apartment and immediately understood: this is exactly what they need. True, at first this apartment was not at all like an ideal. The house where it is located is built in the 80s of XX century. And both outside and inside is made in the style of the era of Queen Victoria. The couple quickly dubbed this style neo-traditionalism and just as quickly decided to abandon it.

To work on the apartment, they invited architect Woon Wong, a specialist in remaking old interiors into modern fashionable housing. In his previous projects, he had already managed famously to finish off the Georgian house, turning it into a hymn to pop art, and with a huge classroom in Victorian spirit, transforming it into a hi-tech loft.

However, in this case cope with Queen Victoria, which left a cramped corridor, lurid eaves, an overweight, inhospitable fireplace, etc., was not so simple. It took a complete redevelopment of the apartment. Woon Wong bore walls, conducted new plumbing services. He decisively destroyed the corridor. Now, when you enter the apartment, before you immediately opens the entire main residential area. The door to the left of the entrance leads to the bedroom and the bathrooms, to the right - to the kitchen, yet the rest (the living room and dining room) is in front of you, in full view. To create a spacious, light-filled space, as the owners wanted, the architect showed wonders of ingenuity. The main difficulty was low ceilings. "If the mountain does not go to Mohammed, Mohammed will go to the mountain," thought Woon Wong, and since nothing could be done about the ceilings, he decided to increase the doorways to the ceiling. Thus, the visual space has become more. In addition, he actively used in the interior decoration mirror surfaces, etched with acid. "The effect of light frost on glass is created by etching. Such glass is more interesting than usual. It intrigues. It reflects light better. It catches any movement, even the shadow of our movement. The surface plays with billions of highlights," the architect comments on the use of unusual material. He applied it to the wall panels, to the sliding partitions between the bathrooms, and to the panel behind which the kitchen is hidden.

Woon Wong categorically rejected all Victorian детали.
