SALON: Kevin, how did you become a designer and start making fixtures?

 - My appearance in the design industry is the result of natural development. I was always drawn to work in it, and I devoted most of my adult life to this activity. I managed to work in its most diverse areas, and became a designer thanks to my experience. I will also say that I see the greatest value in the creative part of my work. That is why I started producing my own objects, arranged in the way I like.

S: Tell us how you got the idea to cross an electric lamp with a wax candle? What led you to such an unusual decision?

 - Once we received a task from one of our clients. For a small cozy restaurant he needed a lamp that would create and maintain a romantic mood in the room with its light. Candles are best coped with this task, but the use of open fire was excluded: the chandelier had to be as safe and practical as possible. Therefore, we replaced the light of the flame with an electric one: a light bulb was hidden inside the candle. Passing through wax, the light is transformed, it looks very soft and natural, as if the room is really lit up with the lights of real candles.

S: You live in Alabama. Has the tradition of this American state influenced the design of your lamps?

 “The customs of Alabama have influenced my life and my design.” It reflects the tradition of frequent evening meetings, where we communicate with our friends and neighbors. Well, and besides, the rhythm of life here is very unhurried, so I always have time to think and think about new ideas.

S: Do you use your work to design your home? Tell us about it. What does the interior look like?

 - My home is a very private and very private place. I love to work here. It helps me to a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, it stimulates the creative work. At home, I most often have new ideas. Of course, design objects created by our company are also collected here: it is very important for me to understand by their own experience what effect they have on a person in life, on a personal level. So this is not just a house, but also a laboratory in some sense.

S: Surely you have some interesting ideas that you are going to implement in the near future?

 - I always think about some projects. This can be either the idea of ​​a new design object, or the possibility of using new materials in the production and finishing of works already created by us. Although the production of lighting items for KEVIN REILLY is a priority, we are also involved in many other projects. In addition to lamps, we, for example, create furniture. We have always done this. Most often these were individual projects made to the order of our clients.
