About how the laws of mathematics and the principles of harmony manifest themselves in the interior, what are the relationships between classics and fashion, designer Julia Karavaeva ponders

Remember the popular expression "Mathematics is the queen of all sciences"? I like this understanding of mathematics as the basis of the basics, and it is clear that it is reflected in the work of our bureau. For me and my colleagues, the main thing in the interior is correct proportions. Our interior solutions are based on the use of correct geometric shapes (circle, square, diamond). The principle of symmetry is very important. For me, this is not just a classic principle, but a vital thing. I like the space to be clear, stable, predictable, comfortable for perception.

An example of such an organization of the interior can serve as a hall overlooking the living room in a country house in the suburbs. The center of the composition (and the main semantic accent) is the fireplace. Furniture groups are arranged symmetrically around it. A marble mosaic path leads from the hall to the fireplace through a wide portal. The circle on the floor is “mirrored” by a circle of stucco decor on the ceiling. If you want to scare parade spaces, I advise you to use a combination of parquet flooring and polished marble in your floor decor. For example, we chose the type of parquet flooring “Sheremetyevo Star”, and the marble covering ornament — as opposed to its some stiffness — is fluid and free, like a pen drawing.

“Art is in the details,” say the French, and I fully agree with them. I love every centimeter of space worked out. For wall decor, we use art-fry (topcoat), panels of glass plates, decorate doors with glass and mirrors, turn floors into huge flower gardens of mosaics. So, in one Moscow apartment a lily became the leading decorative motif, and it appeared due to the fact that the mistress loves these flowers. In particular, the floral pattern made by sandblasting adorns the symmetrically arranged glass doors of the cabinets and repeats itself in the floor ornament.

But all people are different, everyone has different needs and tasks. There are very mobile, which often move and do not plan to invest in mosaics, stained glass, stucco. And for this type of customer (and interior) have their own solutions. Today, textile companies order designers of a collection of fabrics, carpets, wallpapers, from which it is possible to create some kind of basis, where it will be possible to “embed” suitable furniture, light, accessories, paintings. There are other solutions, but this is a separate conversation. In any case, the systems approach, the laws of harmony, the very “mathematics” of the interior are important.
