Not far from Oxford amidst the expanses of Berkshire, the estate was lost ... So the story of some British novel could begin. For example, the saga of Tolkien, the action of which unfolded just among these hills. In our case, this is the beginning of the history of the house of Luisella Aramu, a London-based designer and decorator who, tired of the bustle of the big city, moved with her family to Berkshire neighborhood.
“Still, it’s strange that we settled here,” says Luisella. “This house and the area around it were not at all what we dreamed about. They came to see just nothing to do and ... fell in love. In these places, in this house , that's all. " At first, the mansion did not look any attractive. “The garden around the house was launched, it grew as it wanted. The house itself was a bizarre mix of Victorian and Georgian - perhaps the two most popular British styles, which, frankly, differ little from each other,” smiles Louisell.
There used to be a whole estate on this territory: 55 acres of land and a house surrounded by a covered gallery with a wine cellar and a winter garden. The last three rooms have not been preserved, only the house itself, built in the Middle Ages, has remained, but since then it has been rebuilt many times and presented to the new owners in the "appearance" of the XIX century.
Luisella and her spouse are ardent admirers of classicism, but, like true Englishmen, they could not overcome their desire for "canning" traditions. They refused the most terrible, in their opinion, late additions, but the original, original gothic was preserved. Moreover, it was Gothic motifs that became the main idea of interior design. "These magnificent ceilings with characteristic medieval ornamentation, lancet windows and doorways - all this had a special appeal," says Luisella.
Compromising with the Gothic in terms of architecture, the owners still picked up a rather classical decor. Here and there in the interior there are busts of ancient gods and commanders, crystal chandeliers, mirrors in thin openwork frames. Furniture was also chosen from the classic line - sofas and ot la ма la Madame Pompadour decorate, for example, the living room of the Luisella mansion.
The hostess decided to put in order not only the house itself, but also the garden. "There were some interesting pieces here. So, right next to the house, it was unclear where the Chinese bonsai Ginkgo biloba came from,” the hostess recalls. was incredibly surprised. " Behind the house was a garden, which must have been beautiful once, but at that moment, when Louisell collided with it, almost nothing was left of its former glory. “I immediately got down to business, because landscape design is one of the areas of my professional activity,” says Luisella. love to gather with friends.
