The annual textile exhibition Proposte takes place in the town of Cernobbio. The exhibition pavilion was erected next to the legendary villa Luchino Visconti. The family of the director once owned it, then, because of the complicated order of succession, the beauty was abandoned, but after years, having already become famous, Visconti returned here to make a movie. The atmosphere of this place, which has preserved the magnificent architecture, the park, the breathtaking view of the lake, is perfectly suited for such an elite exhibition as Proposte. Manufacturers of upholstery and curtain fabrics from Italy, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Spain and other countries participate in it. The names of most of the factories will not tell you anything, they are known to the dedicated ones: the owners and art directors of furniture factories and fashion houses, dealers, designers and architects who are purchasing fabrics here. While they were choosing, we were just as pleased to admire the magnificent silks, again becoming fashionable velvet, blended fabrics of all possible colors. Most of the exhibitors are small, family-owned manufactories with a multi-hundred-year history. They keep the traditions of the craft, but do not shy away from and innovations. So, one of the main trends of the exhibition, along with the popularity of natural materials, was refractory polyester, outwardly almost indistinguishable from them.
