Architect Elena Burkina recreated the interior of the era of classicism in a new house with a modern layout

Apartment designed by an architect Elena Burkina, located in a new house in the center of Moscow. The layout of the building with a complex configuration of space assumed a modern interior solution. But the apartment owners preferred classicism style for its decoration, requiring simple lines, right angles and a suite of rooms. Redevelopment of the apartment was the most difficult part of the work on the project. Initially, the space of the apartments was divided into three parts: the central and two wings. One of them, moreover, was at an angle of 135 degrees to the main volume. Elena's task was to integrate this corner zone into the apartment, without losing a single meter of usable area. Correctly allocating the space was equally important for creating an interior in a classic spirit, that is, symmetrical in terms of and rationally organized.

Question of a problem wing Elena Burkina decided, taking up most of his living room, combined with the dining room. The architect turned the library into a small triangular space between the dining room and the central hall. This passing room is the beginning of the classic “suite of halls” connecting the living room with the central area (where the master bedroom is located) and the second wing (which houses the children's room and the study). Unlike the traditional enfilade, the extensive gallery of halls did not become a dead zone: it houses a part of cabinets for storing clothes, shoes, books and accessories.

The owners of the apartments, young and energetic people, did not want to live surrounded by the “museum” classics. In accordance with their wishes, the architect chose an up-to-date style for interior design that brought together features of several historical trends. The decor of the apartments is based on classicism, but with elements of Baroque, Rococo, ar-deko and even pop art. For example, the decor of the living room is designed in the spirit of high classicism, with the exception of baroque frames and shiny panels in the style ar-deko in the television area. As says Elena BurkinaSimilar inserts were needed to dilute the seriousness of the classic interior. With the same purpose, the author of the project hung in the central hall a stylized portrait of a bulldog with a royal crown. Thanks to him, already at the entrance to the apartment it becomes clear: in this house, in honor, a creative approach to everything. Including the classics.

Architect Elena Burkina: “This apartment initially had a complex configuration in terms of: some of the rooms were at an angle of 135 degrees to the main square. It was not easy to bring the layout to the symmetry required in the classic interior. But, as the architects say, difficulties - only for the benefit! Difficulties in working on the project contributed to the choice of non-trivial style and planning decisions. As a result, the interior turned out to be more interesting and richer stylistically. ”
