Japanese Kazuo Seijima is one of the most influential architects in the world, along with Norman Foster or Rem Koolhaas. She is a master of ephemeral architecture, which conducts a delicate dialogue with nature and the environment without a claim to monumentality.

The building with a complex roof and a lot of sheds and galleries has been designed to integrate as best as possible into the historical and natural landscape. Nearby is chidōkan - a school of the Edo period, built in 1805.

The contour of the new SANAA building is rhymed with the main objects of attraction of Tsuruoka - three mountain peaks: Yudono, Gassan and Haguro, each of which has shrines and temples frequented by pilgrims.

The building is divided into volumes that decrease along the perimeter of the site. In the center there is a concert hall, its surrounding premises are created for a wide variety of functions.
