Cold roof - what is it

Cold roof – предельно простая конструкция. На стропила кладется гидроизоляционная пленка или мембрана, защищающая чердачное пространство от образования конденсата, который выпадает на внутренней стороне кровли из металла.

A counter grille is mounted on top, then a crate, and then the roof covering itself is installed. Water vapors are removed from the roofing space through special moves under the ridge and on the slopes.

In addition, the ventilation of the attic space is also carried out through the dormer windows. Cold roofing is characterized by simplicity of design, so it is easy to design, install and operate.

Cold roof

Before installation, you should understand a number of points. If in the future you intend to insulate the attic or turn it into an attic, you must use a waterproofing membrane class TYVEK, because the waterproofing micro-perforated film for cold roofs is not intended for the installation of insulation close. It loses its properties when in contact with it and passes moisture, causing the insulation to get wet. If the insulation of the roof is not planned, you can save money and buy a cheaper waterproofing micro-perforated film. It is necessary to stretch it with a sag of 20 cm so that the water flowing to the middle of the run does not fall on the rafters. To achieve unimpeded ventilation, a special break is made in waterproofing under the ridge.

Some believe that this type of roof is not suitable for areas with harsh winters. This is not true: a cold roof and a cold attic are traditional solutions with a long history. If the ceiling of the attic is insulated according to the standards established for this climate area, there are no restrictions on the use of a cold roof. It is sufficient to insulate the ventilation equipment reliably so that condensate and icing do not form.

As a proper roofing material, any materials that do not need a continuous basis will be suitable for a cold roof. The optimum choice - a professional flooring or a metal tile - reliable, technological and durable materials. Especially if, during their production, steel that has been widely used recently has been used with a powder coating, which repeatedly increases the operational period. If the profiled sheet does not look aesthetically pleasing, then a metal tile that reliably imitates a natural one, but differs in less weight and simple installation, will do.
