From 22 to 31 January in Brussels held a fair of fine arts BRAF - exhibited mainly antiques
Brussels Fair BRAF - one of the largest in Europe dedicated to art. Art is very different - from ancient antiquities to works of pop art. Stands, where they showed antiques, side by side with the exhibitions of contemporary artists and even with ... comics - a national Belgian hobby. It was interesting both there and there. Most of the exhibitors are local (which is understandable, because the event is being organized by the union of antiquaries and art dealers of Belgium), but the Dutch, French, British, Spanish, and Portuguese also come. Russian galleries were represented by Maxim Boxer’s Ravenscourt Galleries. The fair in Brussels is the “barometer” of the European antiques market. It turned out that there now reigns fashion for primitive art - African, island. A lot of carved furniture of the XVII century and salon painting in the spirit of the one that decorated the secular living rooms a couple of centuries ago, as well as ancient antiquities, the best collection of which was presented by the leading figure in this area - the gallery Phoenix Ancient Art. So popular among Russian collectors, Asian art could be found in Galerie Tanakaya. I was struck by the principle of exhibiting: each stand was an interesting interior concept. No coincidence on BRAF приехало столько декораторов. Благо, выставка проходит в те же числа, что парижский салон Maison&Objet, и до Парижа всего час с небольшим на поезде.
