The owners of the historic Borgo Santo Pietro possession set up a magnificent park of more than 100 acres here. It is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe.

Once on this place was a medieval village. In the early 2000s, Klaus and Jeanette Tottrap bought this land, restored what was left of the historic buildings, and built new ones to open a boutique hotel. On a large plot there appeared not only buildings most carefully inscribed into the surrounding landscape, but also a beautiful park. The owners themselves acted as landscape designers.

Jeanette says that they sought to create the impression that the gardens were always here. Meanwhile, they are fully designed and re-planted. The park covers an area of more than one hundred acres (about 40 hectares) and includes not only decorative, but also utilitarian part: it has its own greenhouses, berry and garden gardens, vineyards and even an apiary. Thus, possession provides for itself with organic products and its own brand of wine. The design of the park is inspired by different sources: these are shady Italian gardens, and Provencal, where there are more herbs, and English with their strict lay-out, and even Moroccan with murmurous springs and bright ceramics. Plants (and there are more than three hundred thousand) were bought mainly in local nurseries. After all, the property is located in Tuscany, one of the most picturesque areas of Italy. In addition, the plants had to take root in the local climate with a large difference in summer and winter temperatures. The park opens cypress alley. Next come the parterres of clipped shrubs. They form cozy corners where it is good to hide in the summer heat. Landings of lavender and oleander exude a intoxicating scent. A special place is occupied by a rose garden: Jeanette gathered an entire collection, including rare, old, especially capricious varieties. From the main building, the park cascades down and loses itself over the horizon in perspective, merging with the hills of Tuscany.
